Bruxism is a psychogenic condition in which a person grinds or clenches their teeth while sleeping and/or unconsciously when awake. It was once believed to be caused by misalignment of the upper and lower teeth.
Causes
Recent studies show that it is, in fact, caused by psychogenic factors such as stress, tension, and anxiety. Bruxism leads to enamel wear and chipping, toothache, jaw pain, jaw joint pain, and headaches.
