Removable braces consist of an acrylic base and wires bent to form different shapes. They resemble the base of removable dentures, and the wires fit over your teeth, forming a whole with the base.
The base is usually equipped with some type of screw that helps it expand and produce orthodontic force.
Patients can put on and take off their braces by themselves, and a steady amount of orthodontic force is applied for as long as they are worn. Removable braces are usually worn at night or around the house. Considering that they can be easily taken out, maintaining proper oral hygiene is much easier with removable braces than with fixed braces.
