A sinus lift is a bone grafting procedure in the premolar and molar areas of the upper jaw. It aims to provide sufficient bone volume to support a future dental implant placement.
In case of insufficient bone volume, this procedure adds artificial bone to the upper jaw in the back teeth area, and a membrane beneath the Schneiderian membrane. If there is just enough bone volume, implants may be placed when performing the sinus lift procedure. Otherwise, a minimum recovery period of 6 months has to pass after the sinus lift.
In case of substantial bone loss, the sinus lift should be accompanied by artificial bone grafting (augmentation) following the PRF protocol, which improves the success rate of implant placement.
