The term gynecomastia originates from the Greek word “gyne”, meaning “feminine”.
It refers to a benign enlargement of the male breast resulting from a proliferation of the glandular component of the breast and excess adipose (fat) tissue. It may be caused by a variety of reasons, ranging from hormonal imbalance, metabolic anomalies, or genetics.
Statistically, some form of this condition affects one in three men under the age of 40, and almost half of men have enlarged breasts after reaching the age of 50.
About the procedure
Gynecomastia is an increase in the amount of fat or glandular tissue.
In most cases, it cannot be prevented, but it can be corrected through surgical procedures: mastectomy – surgical breast removal, or liposuction.
